Perhaps “Improvised Weapons” could be considered a specific category. I do believe that a feat (Tavern Brawler) gives a character proficiency with improvised weapons (PHB p.170). Improvised weapons are indeed in a category (English). They are not in one of the game’s weapon categories, however, unless the DM says they are (rule).

If that’s the case, then unless there is rules text that specifies otherwise, natural weapons are weapons, and thus can be used when something requires a weapon. I certainly allow it.

@JeremyECrawford Question on the Warlock's Hex Warrior feature: Is a player able to attack with, say, STR and add CHA to damage or vice versa? Or do both rolls have to use the same stat like Finesse? Finesse specifies, while Hex Warrior doesn't.

Making a damage roll for a weapon? You add your ability modifier to the damage—the same ability modifier used for the attack roll. That's always the rule, unless something tells you otherwise.

Does this mean that if a Half-Orc, that is at 1 hit point, is hit by a giant spider taking >1 piercing damage, and the Half-Orc uses Relentless Endurance to remain at 1 hp, that they would still drop to 0 from the poison damage?

Could a ranger 5/Moon druid 2 Wild Shape into a dire wolf and use Extra Attack to Bite twice?

Curious why cover grants a bonus? A bonus makes you actually harder to hit, and we wanted cover to stack with advantage/disadvantage, such as from being invisible.
