@JeremyECrawford me and my DM are in an argument. for chaos bolt, you roll 2 d8s and pick one for the dmg type. do you pick a die AFTER you roll the d8s (ie: "i choose the 7 i rolled"), or BEFORE (ie: "i choose the second one i roll")?

Shadows of Moil spell heavily obscures with everyday darkness and therefore I can see the heavily obscured caster with Darkision (2nd level spell or a racial trait)? Or it does generate Magical Darkness (like it happens with Darkness spell)?

Would it be acceptable to select an appropriate ability for the spellcasting ability depending on the circumstances or the nature of the spell like for instance using Constitution for the Contagion spell? Acceptable to the rules as written? No.

Does Forbiddance allow for the 40k square feet to stretch through hallways etc, on a “per square” basis, or does it need to be more like a 200 x 200 foot area square? It's one square area.

If an Open Hand Monk hits a creature with the shield spell prepared and uses it's Open Hand Technique feature to stop it from using reactions until the end of the Monk's next turn, would the creature be able to cast shield to cancel the attack?

I believe that the reaction kicks in before the attack, but Jeremy will have a definitive ruling
