What is the reason that an off-hand attack does not include the ability modifier to damage?
Peroanally, it would seem that you could still hit as hard, and the penalty should be for the roll to hit, not the damage roll.

@calebrus44Caster standing next to Mage Slayer casts Misty Step. Is caster gone before MS gets his reaction attack? The caster is gone, since the spell is intended to resolve before the Mage Slayer attack (DMG, 252).

@JeremyECrawford A group I'm in concluded that dragon breath goes through stone walls unimpeded because RAW total cover only blocks spells and attacks and breath is a non-spell save. I figure physics still apply, the breath would hit the wall, & folks inside are immune. Help?

I figure the same should apply for paladin aura and other non-spell areas of effect. Hiding on one side of a 5' thick dungeon wall shouldn't affect the hallway on the other side. @JeremyECrawford

@redlampAlso, does the focus have to occupy the hand, or could it be a ring that allows the character to use their hand normally? I'd allow a cleric to wear a holy symbol as a ring, as long as the cleric displayed it for spellcasting and Channel Divinity.

@Mynock74Thank you. I guess I was wrong. I thought normally you could only cast a bonus and cantrip during same turn. That’s the rule when you cast a spell that has a casting time of “1 bonus action.”

@Mynock74like 2nd weapon is a bonus action, ok. Can other spell casters gain an additional action w/out being a fighter? magic item? The most common way for a spellcaster to do more on a turn is casting a bonus action spell. Also, the haste spell.
