@JeremyECrawford War Caster hitting with Booming Blade when an enemy leaves its reach: can the enemy stop moving to avoid the extra damage?
— Viktor Bengtsson (@vikke064) November 8, 2015
A target hit by an opportunity attack mid-move is in control of its movement, unless somehow compelled. #DnD https://t.co/4lX72elpAb

@JeremyECrawford How does the Monks Radiant Sun Bolt interact with the feat Spell Sniper????? Thanks
— David (@Mithreinmaethor) November 9, 2015
The second benefit of Spell Sniper benefits Radiant Sun Bolt, which isn't a spell but is a ranged spell attack. #DnD https://t.co/xcnbiCYy06

@JeremyECrawford Is is possible to Twin Spell Booming Blade, hitting two adjacent targets withing reach?
— Tim Wilder (@mrprotoman) April 13, 2017
Twinned Spell test: can the spell affect only one creature at the spell's current level, and is its range not self? If yes, TS works. #DnD https://t.co/nv6PqmzF0z
— Jeremy Crawford (@JeremyECrawford) April 14, 2017
@thuggibearWhat about chaos bolt? That has a new attack roll only targeting one target at a time, but can potentially effect more. Neither the feature nor the test I tweeted talks about attack rolls. Can the spell affect more than one creature? That's the question.
— Jeremy Crawford (@JeremyECrawford) April 14, 2017
So I understand correctly, because the initial target of the spell can never change, it can be twinned? So since the Dragon's Breath spell only ever targets the one creature who I cast it on, it can be twinned and both recipients can use the effects?
— TheSandwichNinja (@TheSandwichPira) December 22, 2017
Dragon's breath can affect more than one creature with the exhalation. It therefore can't be twinned. #DnD https://t.co/97DzcSR7pZ
— Jeremy Crawford (@JeremyECrawford) December 22, 2017
I completely agree with @doransiegetower. The target of Dragon’s Breath is “one willing creature.”
— Observant Oliphaunt (@zoozeki) December 22, 2017
That’s like saying haste has 2 sets of targets, the hastened person and everyone that they use their extra actions to attack, or that everyone that tries to hit a mage armored person is also a target. Neither of the spells you mentioned create an area of effect with its own targets. Dragon’s breath is exceptional.
— Jeremy Crawford (@JeremyECrawford) December 22, 2017
How dragon's breath works has no relevance to other spells. See below.https://t.co/LKiIipxbw1
— Jeremy Crawford (@JeremyECrawford) December 22, 2017
That’s silly. I’m not going to try and account for *possible* targets. It targets the creature it gives the breath to, and that’s it. I know you’re the “word of law,” but that’s silly. Luckily, there’s nothing for you to account for. You cast the spell on someone. They exhale on someone else. The end.

@Dvergr76 @BrailSays @_Matafer @JeremyECrawford How would Elemental Affinity (fire) apply to Green-flame blade as cast by a level 5 and up?
— Greg Dickson (@GregDickson90) March 14, 2016
Elemental Affinity adds to one damage roll of a spell. You choose the roll if the spell has more than one. #DnD https://t.co/hQ4tpkbbBI

@JeremyECrawford Can you use the Feral Variant from SCAG on the variants in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes?
— Drop Bear (@dropbear8mybaby) June 11, 2018
To use the tiefling variants in the "Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide" you need to (a) be a tiefling and (b) have the DM's permission to use them. #DnD https://t.co/gqCIpvFJY5

what’s the in-house opinion about spells and character options from Sword Coast Adventure’s Guide that weren’t put in Xanathar’s? Were they considered too specific, niche, or thematic with the setting or was it because of power issues or something else?We chose things from the SCAG to put in "Xanathar's Guide" that we wanted to make available for play in the entire D&D multiverse. Other things in SCAG we're happy to leave in the Forgotten Realms, for which they were designed.

@JeremyECrawford Can you settle a heated discussion, please? A firbolg PC casts booming blade then uses hidden step to go invisible. The creature that is hit with booming blade moves away and thus takes damage. Does hidden step deactivate?
— Nathaniel Mosher (@RubiksMoose) February 1, 2018
So it doesn’t matter if a spell/effect is initiated by you before hidden step was activated? As long as you make a creature do a saving throw or attack or roll damage for any reason then hidden step ends? That’s correct.
