What People Expect D&D to Be: -full cosplay, candles lit on table, deep hoods and ruddy mysterious ambiance-
What D&D Actually Is: -four people in pajamas screaming at a piece of plastic for coming up on the wrong number-

Is Githyanki pronounced with Yankee or Yonkey?
Hey Mr. Greenwood! I have seen you talk about words of the realms and what not, and there is a discussion among my friends. Is Githyanki pronounced with Yankee or Yonkey? On the continent of Faerun where most Realms adventures and tales are set, pronounced with "Yankee," though vowels are pronounced differently, and syllables emphasized differently, too, elsewhere (regional variations).#Realmslore

Thanks for the reply! A pleasure. Realms linguistics grows very slowly, through questions and answers like this one. As it should. (Or I'd go MORE insane.)

Don’t call for player rolls when they aren’t needed
January is #dnd tips for new DMs month for me. Today's is simple. Dice rolls are fun and exciting. Keep it that way. Don't call for player rolls when they aren't needed. Let simple things happen without rolls, and don't hide cool info or actions behind rolls.

“We all watch as the fell dragon finally dies”
1)
We all watch as the fell dragon finally dies
And thank all the gods for our luck
Then the old wizard speaks as he shakes his head and sighs
This wyrm was so puny ’gainst those that USED to run amok— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) January 18, 2019
2)
Then all of a sudden, we see the dead wyrm undead rise
Baleful light kindling in sunken eyes
And curse the gods in our utter surprise
For just now our lives aren’t worth a flying fiddlestick— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) January 18, 2019
I may be getting to run a game for elementry students, ages 8-11, any tips?
I may be getting to run a game for some elementry students who want to play #dnd. ages 8-11.
though i do have a decent homebrew world, I think I might start them in Dragon Heist.
Thoughts fellow #dm's?@ChrisPerkinsDnD@VoiceOfOBrien #dnd5e #wotcstaff

I recommend choosing one of the more cartoonish or likable #DragonHeist villains, such as Xanathar or Jarlaxle. #wotcstaff https://t.co/cmbGZTJFAn

It can be great fun to play an evil, conniving, ruthless, immoral, bloodthirsty villain
#dnd tip for new DMs: it can be great fun to play an evil, conniving, ruthless, immoral, bloodthirsty villain. That doesn't mean you actually have to be one. Be a fan of your players and the story!

“Use their blood, sir.”
1)
“Report of naked people singing and dancing in Knock Wood, Lord Captain. Some of them WIMMEN.”
“Witches, drunkards, a cult, or a guild initiation party?”
“Does it matter, sir? Same response from us, regardless.”
“Good point.”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) January 18, 2019
2)
“Aye, sir. After we’ve clubbed ’em down and manacled them, we can ask those as wakes up first, an’ you can write yer report.”
“Out of ink, remember?”
“Use their blood, sir.”
“Good thinking, that man! Right, off we go!”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) January 18, 2019
3)
“Right, sir! After all…”
[chorus]
“They won’t club and manacle THEMSELVES!”
“Lads, lads, one thing: we approach SILENTLY, and stay hid, and WATCH for a bit, before clubbing.”
“Right, sir! Why, sir?”
“It’s called ‘gathering…#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) January 18, 2019

…evidence.’ Some silly new fad, but the King’s all for it.”
“Oh. Very good, sir.”
“What’s ‘evidence,’ sir?”
“I’ll know it when I see it. If the women ARE naked, I suspect they’ll have it, but I’ll have to watch very closely.”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) January 18, 2019
