#dnd tip for new DMs: if you're creating your own campaign world, don't be afraid to start small. Detailing a small town or a neighborhood in a large city is enough work. The adventurers progress rapidly, and the setting can grow with them. Lessons learned early will help later.

#dnd tip for new DMs: don't try to learn every rule at once. Let the players teach you about their characters at your own pace. After the cleric uses the same cantrip for the 30th time, you will know by heart how sacred flame works: it'll be etched into your mind forever.

This is true. It takes discipline for me to focus on my campaign for my current players rather than drifting off to understanding how sorcerers work. Truth is it doesn’t matter until my players bring it to the table.
