One issue I hear is that the system of dnd (5e and otherwise) is overwhelming in regards to the stories one could tell with it, limiting and shaping the paths it can take. Was there any sense of that in your experience? That, say, spell availability had undue plot influence? I'm not 100% certain I know what you're getting at but I never felt constrained by what we were playing.
