What APL should a LARGE party of 12 sufficiently geared/magic-itemed PCs be for a Deadly Encounter vs an Ancient Red Dragon in her Lair? APL 11? That's a tricky thing to balance. Would suggest beefing the dragon up with extra minions – very hard for a monster to compete with that many characters. Consider treating the group as three groups of four, building deadly for each, then combine

What’s your one thing that makes a setting/campaign believable?
Hello sir, I’ve been wondering for awhile now. What’s your one thing that makes a setting/campaign believable? Been fleshing out my homebrew campaign and looking for advice. I’d say having a very recent history that colors what happens. Lots of fantasy settings put their big events 100s or 1000s of years into the past. I’d think about the big thing that happened in the past 10 years that shapes everything.

Ed’s castle
The castle stands. Cold, silent, patient. Humans rage around and through it like passing blurs, and occasionally spill each other’s blood on it. The castle cares not. It’s been uncaring for a long time, and is getting good at it.

If you belong to a medieval ruling family
You must be prepare for many a fatal calamity
For they must needs be targets who dare to wear crowns
And on long lives for them, many a malicious god frowns— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) April 7, 2018
And my lord he loves me well
Dragons he slew for me, three
And when the last one fell
With its dying curse it invaded me
Daily it dark and stronger grows
When it takes me over, do you suppose
My lord will then slay me?— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) April 7, 2018
Ed’s wizard
Two wizards dueled down a dirt village street
Hurling spells of stabbing lightnings and devouring dark
That clawed and spat and left many a mark
And when they’d six homes burst to rubble
Old crones came out wheezing, on the double
And sent both mages to their graves right fleet— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) March 29, 2018
The old gods are not dead
Nor all the old customs fled
Blood when spilled is still red
So beware, and know prudent dread— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) April 2, 2018
The wizards like to stand yonder
On the height with the great overland view
And sometimes they stand just ponder
And sometimes they hurl spells bright and blue— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) April 12, 2018

Royalty Free, I recommend Kevin McLeod: https://t.co/CbNdaRdFqA
Beyond that, we got permission from talented composers the likes of @midsyndicate & @battlebards. Highly recommended!

The hate for Dragonlance is so funny to me, especially from old timey RPGers. It basically saved D&D and TSR, and yet it's why everything has fallen apart. But then I remember there are a few, poor souls who would be happier if D&D had died in the early 80s.
