How often are PCs expected to die/be dying per tier? Is this a # you work around or is it a guess on your end? no expectations built into the game
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) April 5, 2018
Saw a group playing D&D in a conference room at work. Managed to resist the urge to charge into the room, scream "TIAMAT ATTACKS!" and just throw down some serious pain. That's why I always carry her stat block and a set of dice with me. Just in case a worthy challenger appears.
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) March 29, 2018
I hope he never walks by our house on Friday nights…..we have enough things to fight…Aerifin doesn't need Tiamat too! https://t.co/Qc9liHzmqJ
— Carrie Fowler! (@oneloveinspires) March 29, 2018
It's been rumored that with the proper offerings, I have been known to turn Tiamat against the former DM. https://t.co/bvTvXqFioX

you should also carry a glove, painted to look like the hand of vecna, to challenge people with like in the olden days. Now looking for that on Amazon…
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) March 29, 2018
What do they get if they win?
— Welhaven (@Welhaven1) March 29, 2018
All the treasures of Scotland, assuming there are any left there. https://t.co/2Zz5Tzx6SH

What if the party is already fighting Tiamat?
— Susan Esparza (@SusanEsparza) March 29, 2018
Tiamat's brother shows up and makes awkward conversation. He's hoping the fight ends so he can ask Tiamat for her Netflix password. https://t.co/9LzaycPAaP
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) March 29, 2018
“Hey, Tia… oh, what are these, adventurers? Say, leave them alone a minute Tia, I wanna watch #StrangerThings, what’d you change your Netflix password to? Oh c’mon, he’s just wielding a +3 sword, let him trim your claws and tell me!” #dnd #dnd5e I see you have met him!
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) March 29, 2018
I love these tweets, we need a D&D commercial like this now. Almost like the Kool Aid guy but it’s Mr. Mearls with a five headed dragon. LoL
— Frank (@Knarfenstein) March 29, 2018
I definitely have the physique to play Kool Aid Man. https://t.co/XWnyXqY5Y0

Really mess with them. Surround them with quicklime armed with cream pies! They’ll never see it coming! Ah yes Tiamat’s Brother Twoamat Canon updated

Dammit! Quicklings, not quicklime!

The mage she came a-wandering by
With a mesh-sack of three skulls under her arm
Until she came to the man-dragon’s grave
Where she began the undeath-rise charm— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) April 16, 2018
As I came into the deepest dungeon cell
She was hanging in her chains
Saw me and shifted, ringing many a tiny bell
No pride nor freedom now here remains— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) April 16, 2018
The dragon hath left me all alone
In this grim wild place unknown
Amid the bones of earlier heroes overthrown
But my defiance shall be cold stone— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) April 16, 2018
I have finished a rough outline for a homebrew class. One of the players has been a been…. uncooperative when it come to nerft. i need others opinion to make sure I am being fair. Playtesting ANY home brew comes with the caveat that changes for balance are expected. If a player using it feels a change in unfair, they can discuss their reasoning to help you tweak, but ultimately changes and balancing will happen. The goal is a solid class.
— Matthew Mercer (@matthewmercer) 20 aprile 2018
If you are finding it is too powerful in play, it’s unfair to other players who are using more balanced classes. The player should acknowledge this. If trying out the “Nerf” proves to hobble the fun of the class after further play, then you can discuss a balanced rollback.
— Matthew Mercer (@matthewmercer) 20 aprile 2018
dude, how do you keep dnd secrets? I’m building my campaign and keeping the cool details to myself is maddening.Patience… its difficult, I know, but MAN the pay off is worth it.

#AprilTTRPGMaker – Describe your process.
I feed blank paper into a creaky old LaserWriter taken from a leprechaun I cornered in a bar on Lansdowne Street, and out come completed manuscripts. He was either a magical sprite from the mystic world or the Celtics’ mascot. Not sure?— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) April 9, 2018
wow, who would have thought we had the same process? that leprechaun gets around!
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) April 9, 2018
…Mike are you a Boston kid? Yup
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) April 9, 2018
#AprilTTRPGMaker Favorite game to relax with – D&D of course. There is definitely something to be said about needing to look at something else to relax, but D&D is varied enough that there's always something new. Plus, playing is so different from working on it.
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) April 10, 2018
#AprilTTRPGMaker – What's my brand?
The use of brand to describe people points to a downside of digital culture, where we try to reduce people to a simple, two-dimensional construct that can be encapsulated in a single, brief interaction, ignoring the depth found in all people.— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) April 11, 2018
This seems like fun. Let’s see if I can keep up with it.
1. Rodney Thompson, Senior Designer at Bungie, owner/sole employee of Scratchpad Publishing, occasional freelancer. Worked at Wizards of the Coast as a designer for ~9 years.
2. Kent, WA, a little southeast of Seattle. pic.twitter.com/63dbdrfqYA

Back in 2001, I ran a Star Wars RPG fan site. @ChrisPerkinsDnD took a chance on me and hired me to co-write the Hero’s Guide. That job quite literally allowed me to pay my tuition & stay in school. Put me on the road to freelancing & a job at WotC. pic.twitter.com/0wujiwirvN
— Rodney Thompson (@AntarianRanger) April 3, 2018
4. “Varied” best describes my work. I have worked on several mainstream games, and was fortunate to have been a part of the design team for an edition of D&D that people seem to love. I also just published my first independent RPG, and freelanced for many games. #AprilTTRPGMaker
— Rodney Thompson (@AntarianRanger) April 4, 2018
6. The Dungeon Master/Gamemaster. I love how the human element gives texture, diversity, and surprise to the game. It allows for simultaneous collaboration and antagonism. I believe the DM/GM is one of the biggest competitive advantages that RPGs have. #AprilTTRPGMaker
— Rodney Thompson (@AntarianRanger) April 6, 2018
7. The most important part of game design happens at the table when you play the game and see what works and what doesn’t. So, this game table is my primary work space. Complete with in-process prototype! #AprilTTRPGMaker pic.twitter.com/LYmlHfZDan
— Rodney Thompson (@AntarianRanger) April 9, 2018
9. Get to first playable quickly, play & iterate until the core mechanics are solid, & only then start caring about the exact content. Play as often as possible, listen to playtesters & make sure I have collaborators with skills and perspectives I don’t have. #AprilTTRPGMaker
