design tip: when creating an encounter, ask yourself three questions over and over:
–how is this cool and interesting narratively?
–how is this cool and interesting for players?
–how is this cool and interesting for DMs?Is there an example of something that satisfies 1 and 2 that does not satisfy 3?

Something that is overcomplicated mechanically for the DM to keep track of. Something that unbalances the game down the line, like access to overly powerful magic items. Something that asks a DM to take on a role that might be difficult for them to embrace.
