    Master Zoltar,

As a lowly bard who wishes to use True Polymorph, is there a limit to how many creatures can be polymorphed at once?

For example, if I turn a boulder into a young dragon, wait until it is permanent, then the next day do the same thing, will I have created two different dragons?

If I am given about a month in-game, can I have created 30+ dragons from boulders?

Yes, you can, but rember that creatures that you create are friendly to you, but are not under your control.

Probably 5 dragons in the same room will not stay togheter, they tend to stay alone, with their treasures, objectives…

    • Obama white says:

I was under the impression that the polymorph spell was specifically for a beast and Dragons fall under a different category they are not considered a beast, your DM may allow you to use it otherwise. Or that would be the difference between the regular polymorph and a true polymorph.

      • Wellby says:

You are correct, Polymorph specifically states “beast,” however, True Polymorph goes a step further and specifically states “creature” meaning any creature (with True Polymorph, you can also change things from/to objects, making it VASTLY superior to the original Polymorph)

So my question is a little more personal. Long story short there is a PC in my party that needs to die but I want to do so without making the player mad. He’s playing a NE necromancer and the rest of the party aren’t exactly saints….we’re all raiding Vikings.. mostly. Problem is the necromancer has become more of a threat than a benefit and at least 1 other player thinks he needs to die. Only question is how can I kill the pc without the player getting passed off.

Mine is just an advice as old DM: try to allure yur necromancer to the possibility to embrace undead as a Lich or a Vampire but during the transformation something goes wrong.
      I suggest MM p 203 or p.295

Familiar question…I know fams cant attack. A flying familiar can carry 5-10lbs so could place a grappling hook on a ledge or fill a waterskin while the party sets up camp. During combat can a flying familiar drop an acid vial or alchemist fire overhead of enemies?…if the familiar is banished and items are left in the space do they fall and break on enemies?

My answer is not official, but as DM, familiars need to hit (so attack) the target. If you want a spalsh damage talk to your DM, and my advice is that all target in the area can make a ST with advantage

  4. Anguis says:

Yes the desired intent is to have a familiar modify the surrounding environment…light fires or scatter debris to Help but also have a more lasting effect on the field. Its a vague area since there is no guidance on falling objects inflicting damage…weakened supports collapsing a balcony or dropping a stone down a cave chimney to gauge distance where someone is below. Thank you for your insight.

  5. Wizard’s Spellbook – For each level of the spell, the process takes 2 hours and costs 50 gp.
Warlock’s Book of Ancient Secrets – For each level of the spell, the transcription process takes 2 hours and costs 50 gp.
Ritual Caster Feat – The process of copying the spell into your ritual book takes 2 hours per level of the spell, and costs 50 gp per level.

The way Ritual Caster is phrased makes me think both the Wizard’s Spellbook and the Warlock’s Book of Ancient Secrets only costs 50 gp, independently of the Spell Level. English isn’t my first language, so am I wrong?

      • EDIT: Just reread the part about hiding (page 177), apparently it is possible to get advantage on it.
So my best guess would be that a racial trait could give you advantage, like an owl. so an owl familiar or a druid shape-changed to one would probably have advantage on there passive perception (adding a +5 on it).

    • Owls’ Wisdom (Enhance Ability, 2nd level spell). Also several beast shapes (cats, bears, bats, dogs, birds). Items: Eyes of the Eagle, Robe of Eyes, Rod of Alertness, and Sentinel Sheild.

These also all stack with Observant (feat), for a net +10 to your passive perception (ie 20 untrained, 37 at max prof/expertise/+5 wis)

  6. Squall says:

I’m not sure how Phantasmal Force is supposed to work. The spell states: “The target rationalizes any illogical outcomes from interacting with the phantasm.” If this is the case, how would a creature logically use its action to perform an investigation check? Or would a creature interacting with the illusion in any way suffice as an investigation check?

Is it possible for phantasmal force to move with the target after it has been cast, or does it stay where it is? For example, would an illusory creature give chase? Or would an illusory blindfold stick to their head?

    • Zoltar says:

      Heroic Squall
I try t give you some unofficial answers

1.how would a creature logically use its action to perform an investigation check?

Other party memebers tell him that there are no enemies or fire or whatever he see

      2. Or would a creature interacting with the illusion in any way suffice as an investigation check?
      Investigation can resolve the problem

      3. Is it possible for phantasmal force to move with the target after it has been cast, or does it stay where it is?
yes, bt in the spell range area (60feet)

      • Snow says:

Wouldn’t a person told by their friends that there is nothing there just justify it with “This monster / thing must be invisible to everyone else” if they’re rationalising everything about the illusion?
