Thank you. So Shillelagh is a magically imbued weapon, and Flame blade is a weaponally imbued magic. 🙂 Still don’t quite get it, but I’ll except that. My guess is that Flame Blade doesn’t work with the sorcerer draconic Affinity at level 6 either. It’s like the only spell on the list that doesn’t pair up with anything. Not quite a weapon, not quite a spell. It’s a spepon. LOL!

Believe it or not this entire conversation has given me insight on how it all works. So check out this combo. Level 5 character, druid 1/ sorcerer 4 with the war caster feat. Flame blade with shield. On my action I attack with flame blade followed by quicken spell frost bite, with the reaction spell shield. With the sorc draconic and a Dex of 16, Wis 16. You have a total of 18 ac, flame blade 3d6 + frostbite 2d8 + shield reaction with +5 ac. For a level 5 league play legal character. Thank you all for your patience with me asking so many questions.

  2. I’m about to play my first game of 5th Edition and after talking with my DM he suggested I try the new ‘Artificer’ class from UA but there are some points we are unsure about.

Firstly: Artificers can make their own Wondrous Items but there is no rule about what to do if one gets Damaged/Stolen – nor is there anything about items that have limited charges/uses (Robe of Useful Items) – we are thinking that the Artisan could probably spend time to replace the item but are having difficulty figuring out how long that would take or what cost to the Artificer.
(I would also think that without the Artificer the items should be of limited use to another person – he has made these in an unusual way)

Secondly: Is the Artificer proficient with his ‘bombs – the alchemical formula vials that he can throw at his opponets? the DM has decided ‘yes, of course he would be’ but we like to dot the i’s and cross the t’s.

I would assume that the artificer is proficient with his bombs, though the UA doc doesn’t specifically say so. It should also be noted that the damaging bombs he throws are saving throws, which does include your proficiency bonus. I wouldn’t require an attack role on any of the bombs he throws since they are either saving throws or spell-like AoE’s.

As for the Wonderous Items, I think it’s intended as a one-and-done mechanic, but if your DM has a lot of “downtime activities”, then they could potentially let you remake it from scratch or repair the existing item that was damaged or had its charges expended. I’d probably do something similar to what Matt Mercer does for Percy’s tinkering checks on Critical Role (having multiple checks over multiple days).

What are your thoughts on the Fighter’s Arcane Archer vs Battlemaster in regard to the number of uses of their shots/maneuvers and how potent they are?

  4. Shillelagh is totally legit for both extra attack and two weapon (assuming you have the right features to use a non light weapon).

It doesn’t make something that “looks” like a weapon. It makes an actual weapon.

  5. Drovir says:

Hello there fellow trickery cleric Drovir here. My question pertains to the glyph of warding. Could I use the spell as ie…explosive glyphs and throw one at a creature in combat and have it explode using a password or certain creature parameters?

    • Zoltar says:

      Bold Drovir
PHB p. 245 “If you choose an object, that object must remain in its place; if the object is moved more than 10 feet from where you cast this spell, the glyph is broken, and the spell ends without being triggered.”

  6. The casting time is 1 hour. So if you know you are going to fight in a certain area, you can take an hour and do exactly what you suggested. Or… take several hours and use Warlock multiclass to make many glyphs (short rest, do again, repeat til sunrise). The high level trick is to use Demiplane to create a stable pocket dimension where you store the glyphs. Then create a door to the demiplane duing a fight and push enemies in.
