    Reliable Zoltar,

Concerning the Bard « magical secret » feature.

It is said that « the chosen spells count as bard spells for you and are included in the number in the Spell Known column of the Bard table » (PHB p. 54).

Therefore, if you chose a cantrip instead of a spell with the « magical secret » feature, does it count in the number of spells known, or in the number of cantrips known.

Thank you, once again, for your time and your great insight.

  2. Zoltar,

If a bard has Shapechange and Find Steed from magical secrets, can he turn the Steed into a different creature than he turns himself into? How does the level/challenge rating limit apply to the mount?

    Relevant Text:
“While mounted on your steed, you can make any spell you cast that Targets only you also target your steed.”
“The new form can be any creature with a challenge rating equal to your level or lower. ”
“During this spell’s duration, you can use your action to assume a different form following the same restrictions and rules for the original form”

Wild shape Ape! Can an Ape use a shortsword, great axe, shield, leather armor or… Don’t laugh… Flame blade? The PHB says that you can change shape without losing concentration and take actions that are a part of the spell. I work grave yards and have all night to ponder these things…

  4. Totally DM discretion. However, if i were the DM, Id certainly allow an Ape to use any weapon you are proficient in as well as wield a shield, or swing a flame blade. Armor does not re-size unless it is magical, so that is out (no way an apes frame is close enough to yours to wear your clothing – think hulk). “DM decides whether it is practical for the new form to wear a piece of equipment, based on the creature’s shape and size”

Web, as created by the Web spell, is flammable and ignites when ‘exposed to fire’. The web is also 5′ deep when on a flat surface. So my question is, if you are attacking a target who is in the web with a fire cantrip such as Green Flame Blade or Firebolt, does the cantrip ignite the web, as the web would be at least shoulder height for most creatures within it?

    • Zofi says:

Any ability or environmental affect that hits the web would cause it to ignite, so I think you answered your own question.

As DM I’ll rule as creatures: “any creatures inside the extradimensional space are expelled into the open spaces nearest to the entrance.” So I do for objects
