rules writing tip: try to use “simple” (transitive) verbs rather than something like a gerund (“-ing” verbs). These tend to be much quicker to read and are easier to comprehend and commit to memory.
Example: “When you cast a spell…” not “When casting a spell…” Here's another one: when writing rules, don't lead with the exceptions to the rule. Clearly and completely define the rule before even mentioning the possibility of exceptions. (That said, having exceptions to rules is totally fine, I think!)
