I’m thinking about running a 5e game to advocate mental health. I have a few ideas, but would you be able to lend a few tips? Don't over-prepare, have some loose, weird NPCs and ideas outside of the main story you can weave in if need be, & listen to your players.

With it promoting mental health awareness, should I stray from certain things that would otherwise be fine in a game or just embrace it all?Certain traps, arcane or otherwise? I want to be tactful and still compelling. You have experience in both fields.

Keeping it light and fun while still challenging is key. Maybe avoid super-intense illusions or psychological traps, if anything?

I don't think you need to worry too much. Others may correct me if I'm wrong. 🙂

I really appreciate you sharing your time. I just lost a friend, so this means a lot to me. If I get to do it, I want to do it well, y'know?

Have a strong story direction/inciting incident early in to grant direction quickly, and let them run with the momentum.

Be prepared to discard your expectations in favor of fun and letting the players be silly with your narrative at times.
