ALSO I need your help twitter!
I have a player who is a collector, as a person. The “whole room of lego” kind of collector. He’s playing an artificer (battle smith), and is constantly searching for cool things.
It took me a while to realize he’s trying to collect.
Suggestions? Use the various trinket tables, and the "who made it" and "why was it made" tables for magic items in the DMG to spice up interesting bits and bobs?

I’ve done that a bit, but he seems to be disappointed by trinkets that lack a clear use…
Perhaps I need to give a few of them a little more minor magic and also provide opportunities to trade trinkets or something? (that could be useful in the Feywild too….🤔) Hmm. No indication of what general kind of stuff he wants to collect?

I forget, do you have Jarrod’s Eberron trinket supplements yet? Might lend some inspiration.
This is just the first in the series, lots more on DMsGuild: Yes! I need to go through it for inspiration and make my own list though, instead of relying on just using it in the moment.

Pieces of an armor or device! You could skin it as a vestige of divergence that levels up when they get certain pieces.

Rocks or materials with fantastic cosmetic properties go a long way for artificers. Being able to bling out things is usually a hit. The D&D equipment equivalent of flames on the side of a car. yeah, I think that would also be right up his alley! He found some adamantine once, and added it to his battle smith pet's tail (for extra damage). I forgot about that! I should add some more of those things!

It’s also a great opportunity to add non-numeric benefits that feel mechanical, like a stone that gives off light like a torch or a sword that is immune to fire (the sword, not you). A clever player will also use it for silly things. I had one use a sword like that to stir lava AMAZING. Swordy lava stir-stick!

Instead of different magic items, let him "level up" items by combining them and crafting.
