  1. Etienne Ripoche says:

Hi Z, if i wear a belt of dwarvenkind, do i get the +2 Con even if i don’t attune to it ? The description says “Additionnally, when you are attuned to it…” for the other properties.
The same question could be asked about Berserker Axe : do you get the +1 wielding it and the bonus hit points when you attune to it ?
    Thanks a lot.

    • no, there’s 2 reason’s for this.
      1) it does not say additionally, but “In addition, while attuned to the belt”, this context means that while you are attuned you also gain the following benefits.
      2) the rules for attunement state “without becoming attuned to an item that requires attunement, a creature gains only it’s nonmagical benefits, unless its description states otherwise”.In it’s description I don’t find a part where it says that you gain the benefits even without attunement.

As for the axe, see 1) as it states “In addition, while you are attuned to this weapon”, and 2) still applies as well.

      • Etienne Ripoche says:

So, when the rules for attunement state “without becoming attuned to an item that requires attunement, a creature gains only it’s nonmagical benefits, unless its description states otherwise”, what items are exceptions, as stated in their descriptions ?
I can’t find any, and the specific wording of the belt and the axe (different from the other belts and weapons) was for me the inclusion criteria.
Sorry to bother you with such questions 😡

        • I’m not entirely sure if there are any in the DMG, but I do know that there’s a few in other content.

The one I remember is from Curse of Strahd (spoilers!):

Icon of ravenloft states (page 222):
“While within 30 feet of the icon, a creature is under the effect of a protection from evil and good spell against fiends and undead. Only a creature attuned to the icon can use its other properties”.

In this example, it specifically states a magical effect that happens without attunement.

  2. Simone says:

    Dear wizard,
    Help!
    The “concentration” description says:
“Some spells require you to maintain concentration in order to keep their magic active. If you lose concentration, such a spell ends.”

    The levitate descriprion says:
“When the spell ends the target floats gently to the ground if it is still aloft.”

    Question:
When I loose concentration while levitating do I fall or I float to The ground?

Magic is not active any more because I lost concentration so there should be no magic to bring me down gently.
I think: I should fall and The levitate spell description really means “at the end of The duration of The spell you float down”

    Help me please
    Thanks

    • Zoltar says:

      Bold Simone
It says “when the spell ends” ,
Does losing concentration ends the spell?
      Yes
      So the target float down.

  3. Joseph says:

I’m not sure if this has been covered by the officials yet, but in regards to the Mystic UA (v. 3), can more than one discipline effect be activated per turn so long as they use different actions (i.e. one uses an Action and one use a Bonus Action)?

    • I cannot find any reference in the rules that say you cannot, therefor I would assume they use the same rules for your action economy as the PHB describes and thus you should be able to do so.

There are references that using 1 discipline also does not limit you to just that discipline (though they do not specifically specify that they can or can’t be used in the same turn)

      • Joseph says:

That’s what I was thinking based on my own reading. In that case, I had a related question regarding disciplines. I had assumed your psi limit was the max number of psi points you could spend per turn, but as I re-read it seems to say that it’s the max you can use per discipline. So could I theoretically spend 7 points on an “action” discipline and then another 7 points on a “bonus action” discipline on the same turn? (I swear I’m not trying to break the game lol.)

    • I don’t find any part in the spell that says you lose you’re memory, so I’d assume that you’d keep it. Of course depending on your new mental abilities you might not be able to use it as you did before.

The spell also notes “It retains it alignment and personality”, to me a personality is at least partially reliant on your memories.

  4. Johnny says:

By rule when a fighter/paladin uses protection, do you give disadvantage before or after the dice are thrown.

  5. True Polymorph says, “If you turn a creature into another kind of creature, the new form can be any kind you choose whose challenge rating is equal to or less than the target’s (or its level, if the target doesn’t have a challenge rating).”

Does “its” refer to the target, the new form, or both? IE can this be re-worded: “new form can be any kind you choose whose level is equal to or less than the target’s “

    • Both, no.
CR (Challenge Rating) and level are 2 different things, therefor just saying level will not work. In fact, you cannot True Polymorph a creature into another creature with a LVL, but you can only change it into a creature with a CR.

basicly, if you have a CR 8 NPC you can change it into another creature of 8 or less CR.
If the creature you’re trying to change does not have a CR but a level, so for example a lvl 12 PC it can be changed into a creature of CR 12 or less.

    • Anguis says:

Yes…if the target enemie is unwilling and fails its saving throw it will be levitated. Once you stop concentrating on the spell it ends and the target descends gently to the ground if still aloft. PH 255
