Can the weapon from the Shadow Blade spell be chosen as a Kensei weapon?

@SageAdviceDnD @JeremyECrawford can the weapon from the shadow blade spell be chosen as a kensei weapon? The spell says the blade counts as a simple melee weapon. I am a bit confused and am wondering if it works. #DnD
