If a bugbear’s long limbed trait adds to the reach of a weapon with reach, does it add reach to melee weapons without it?

if a bugbear’s long limbed trait adds to the reach of a weapon with reach, does it add reach to meleeweapons without it? Like my ranger fights with a bow and spear, the spear doesn’t have the reach trait. #DnD It adds 5' to the reach of any melee attack. Spear's reach is 5' so with Long Limbed it becomes 10'. But only on your turn. Which is odd, but it is what it is.
