Eldritch Cannon: Does any expended spell slot count or must it be spent specifically on regaining use of the feature?

Hi Jeremy, Eldritch Cannon says ‘you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest or until you expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher’. Does any expenditure count or must it be spent specifically ON regaining use of the feature? 1/2 Fortified Position says 'You can create two with the same action (but not the same spell slot)' which seems to imply that you have to spend a spell slot specifically to recharge the feature. Eldritch Cannon does let you spend a spell slot to create the cannon. That slot must be spent specifically on the cannon, not on something else. #DnD https://t.co/CegBgwCYaE
