Can an adventurer benefit from a long rest if they are in an area in which they passively take damage every hour?

Question: can an adventurer benefit from a long rest if they are in an area in which they passively take damage every hour? If they are sleeping or keeping watch, would passive damage negate their long rest? #dnd5e @mattcolville @matthewmercer @JeremyECrawford @mikemearls
