When your are creating an item or ability, what helps you decide if you want to give advantage/disadvantage vs giving a flat bonus (i.e. +/- 5)? A flat bonus to me represents something that fundamentally changes the target, while advantage or disadvantage is a passing event. Not always consistent in game as published, but that's my framework
