@rderekpIs your passive Perception the minimum you can roll? Like you always are as good as your passive score?
depends on DM's approach – I use passive for everything except active checks that use the character's action.

@rderekp in that case, imagine that PC might make a mistake, be distracted, etc. to end up with less than passive check
