A thing that’s bugged me a bit about the Aereni is that they are often portrayed as mostly good-aligned. Yet they don’t care about others and would probably not think twice about hurting them to protect their interests. I’ve treated them as mostly neutral in my games. Thoughts? I definitely see the culture of Aerenal as more neutral than good. If you look to pages 216-219 of the original ECS, all of the named Aereni NPCs (including the rulers!) are Lawful Neutral.

I just checked the Sharn sourcebook, and both the Aereni consul and the high priest Mayne Jhaelian are Lawful Neutral. What’s your source on them generally being depicted as Good?

For starters, in Eberron: Rising from the Last War, which I just checked, the Undying Soldier and Undying Councilor are both described as neutral good, thus giving the impression that generally they are good-aligned. IIRC there are other examples, but I don’t recall them now The UNDYING are more likely to be good than most because of the influence of Irian, just as the influence of Mabar pulls vampires and liches toward evil. This is also reflected by the Deathguard, who serve the Court directly. But most living Aereni lean toward neutrality.

Just been thinking about Zariel & Radiant Idols in Eberron, would you see Zariel as a powerful Devil lord without the Nine Hells in Eberron?. Also, do you see the old 3.5 rules where worshipers of a Radiant Idol could take a domain focus being viable?. Personally, rather than making her a fallen angel, I'd make Zariel a former lieutenant of an overlord who now seeks to steal her master's power, and give her control of a demiplane within Khyber.

Followers of a radiant idol could manifest divine magic, yes. But the power isn't coming directly from the idol; it's driven by the faith of the follower.

is Eberron tilted on its axis like Earth? Does it revolve around the sun? Eberron has seasons similar to Earth, so it’s presumably tilted on its axis. The sun has never been discussed in a canon source that I’m aware of, but given that there is a day/night cycle and Dol Arrah is a sun goddess, probably. Although…

If that’s the case then why are Fernia and Risia only coterminous during northern hemisphere summer and winter? Personally I don’t consider the 3.5 ECS assignment of coterminous/remote periods to be absolute or accurate, but I’ll discuss that in more detail in the planar section of Exploring Eberron.
