Should I lay off and just invent the world as the game goes?

CommentHey Chris!
Congrats on so many episodes, and especially congrats on being part of this new wave of D&D streaming! All of you in the stream-o-sphere are really doing a lot to make D&D more accessible. WotC should put y’all on the payroll!
I’m a new DM, and I cannot help worldbuilding in between campaigns. Should I lay off and just invent the world as the game goes, or should I make a clearly fleshed-out world before I plop my players in there?
I would argue against building too much of the world up front. I’ve had better success starting small, and slowly building the world as the campaign marches on. from discussion Chris Perkins AMA.

Why there is no official content for the 16-20 levels?

CommentSo far the published content has included stories tailored towards characters somewhere in the 1-15 level range. Is there a particular reason why there is no official content for the 16-20 levels? Is the difficulty at this tier too hard to gauge correctly? Is it because of the world-altering consequences those stories might entail?DMs tend to customize their campaigns more an more as their characters gain levels. It’s hard to create high-level adventures that will serve tens of thousands of DMs. Also, our research shows that a relatively low percentage of campaigns make it to levels 16+. However, that doesn’t rule out high-level content in the future. from discussion AMA with Chris Perkins (Today at 10:30 AM PST).

What is your greatest strength as a DM? What about greatest weakness?

CommentHey Chris! Thanks for doing this!
What would you say is your greatest strength as a DM? What about greatest weakness?Strength: The ability to improvise and keep the story moving.
Weakness: Lack of mad skillz. There are things I’m not good at, such as artistic and musical talent, that other DMs have in abundance. from discussion Chris Perkins AMA.
