  1. Tommy says:

If a lv. 14 Life Cleric with 20 Wisdom casts Mass Cure Wounds (5th lv. spell) centered on himself
Would Disciple of life and Blessed Healer both trigger?
My allies would be cured by an amount of 3d8+5+2+5
    and the cleric 3d8+5+4+10
    Is this correct?

    • Obama White says:

“When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that restores hit points to a creature other than you, you regain hit points equal to 2 + the spell’s level.”
The “other than you” part of that would make me believe that if you are getting hit points from the spell then you would not gain the the blessed healer effect.

You would gain Disciple of Life , there is no restrictions on that ability.

  2. Can a monk spend multiple ki points, in an ability like Flury of blows, in the same combat? And if the monk spend the ki point in flury of blows, he cant use after a short or long rest? We have some troubles with the interpretation of the phb

    • Obama White says:

Flurry of Blows can be used as many times as you have the resource to spend on doing it. Meaning on each of your turns when you take the attack action(after the attack[s]) as a bonus you can spend one ki point to make two unarmed strikes.
As long as you have points to spend you can do it again on a following turn. (You can Fleury more than once in a combat. But only once a turn as a bonus action provided you have ki points to spend on it.)

You regain ki points by spending 30 minutes meditating. That you can do during a short or long rest.

Your Ki Point abilities are like a casters prepared spells they are things you can do provided you have the resources available to use them, your resource as a monk is your ki points instead of spell slots.

If you need better clarification please let me know what part in unclear.

  3. Hello, I would like to know if the Goliaths trait: “Powerful Build” Affect you Grapple or Shove, for example: Would a goliath attempt to grab a huge creature, and would not have penalty for moving a small creature?

    • Obama White says:

Powerful Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

RAW: no to both, because it states the only things that accounts for.
      No help with grapple, but
if your DM would allow, the shove attack to count because the Goliath is trying to push the creature.and it is reasonable for powerful build to work when trying to move big things

If a Goliath is carrying a gnome or halfling it is reasonable that the powerful build would also count for that, because it is in tandem with “carrying”.

You will still have almost everything from your race ,Here is what will get switch for your wings.
Pg 43 PHB “Infernal Legacy. – You know the thaumaturgy cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the hellish rebuke spell once per day as a 2nd-level spell. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the darkness spell once per day. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.”

So just your innate spell-casting for thermometergy ,hellish rebuke, and darkness.

In my opinion, it would depend on how you see your character. What “flavor” of tiefling do you picture.

But from a mechanic standpoint having the ability to fly at character creation is very strong.(band at some tables)
Especially if you’re a melee class like Paladin ,fighter ,or Barbarian. Not having to worry about things being outside of your reach is amazing.

The drawback to having wings is if you use armor than anything you find needs to be altered to be able to fit your wings. And that can be a huge pain , not being able to wear your new fancy things that you find.

          • i’m creating a tiefling ranger,so i didn’t see hellish rebuke as something as useful as burning hands.but flight could be very useful for changing vantage points, also is there anyway to get the termometergy cantrip through another way if i do choose wings

            • Obama White says:

              multiclassing into cleric.
Without multiclassing you would need to take the “magic initiate” feat(which replaces one of your stat Improvements), and pick claric.
This gives you two can trips and a first-level spell you cast once per long rest without using a spell slot.
[Recommendations for the other two spells would be guidance and healing word.]

That being said both multiclassing and the use of feets or optional rules that would require speaking with your DM to gain permission to use in the campaign.

Thaumaturgy itself does not have a large affect mechanically in the game it is mostly just for flavor. If you talk with your DM and let them know that having that would round out the idea of your ranger than you may be able to get wings and the cantrip.

Also keep in mind if you go the multiclassing option, and only dip one lvl into claric even if you have higher lvl spell slots from ranger you only have access to first level cleric spells. And will have a single D8 HD along with your D10s from ranger. And your spell slot progression will be slightly different.
Page 163 in the PHB will have more information on this. Along with everything else that goes along with multiclassing and feats.

                • Obama White says:

                  Chapter 6: Customization Options.
There is a whole chapter in The Player’s handbook about those 2 options(feats and multiclassing). If you know where the feets are flip a couple Pages before them to get to multiclassing.

I will bullet point a few things but you are going to have to look things up for yourself for greater detail.
                  1) 20 is the maximum level for your “character” within those 20 levels you can have different class levels.(4th lvl rouge 3rd lvl bard = 7th lvl character)
                  2) prerequisite for multiclassing into cleric is a 13 in your wisdom ability score, you also need a 13 in your dexterity and 13 in your wisdom to multi-class out of Ranger.
3)If your classes give you Hit Dice of different types, keep track of them separately. If you are a ranger lvl 5/cleric lvl 5, for example, you have five d10 Hit Dice and five d8 Hit Dice.(10th lvl character)
4)Class Features: When you gain a new level in a class, you get its features for that level. Example: ranger lvl 3/ cleric lvl 1, you would be a 4th level character but you would not gain your first ability score Improvement until you were fourth level in a class.(see individual class feature tables)
5)Each spell you know and prepare is associated with one of your classes, and you use the spellcasting ability of that class when you cast the spell. Similarly, a spellcasting focus, such as a holy symbol, can be used only for the spells from the class associated with that focus.
There is also a formula to determine your characters spell slots and a table associated with it. That will determine how strong a Caster your character is overall.
(A fourth level Ranger and a first-level cleric would have access to second level spell slots, but no second level spells yet.)

Page 165 in the player’s handbook has that table, it is also the first page that has feats, so if you can find where those are then you will be able find all the information for multiclassing.

Hi! i have a question or or rather a doubt. Can a creature hide from another that have blindsight?….

In this twitter jeremy Crawford say no unless by magical means….https://www.sageadvice.eu/2016/07/21/can-you-hide-from-a-creature-with-blindsight/ Question……..”Can you hide from a creature with blindsight: behind a pillar? In a barrel? Around a corner? Behind a wall? Camouflaged?”………answer………”You can’t hide from a creature if you’re in its blindsight radius, unless magic cloaks your presence entirely”

but in this other says “An undistracted creature with blindsight does typically notice creatures who aren’t behind cover” https://www.sageadvice.eu/tag/hide/

and in the last one, says “Blindsight lets you spot an invisible creature in range, but that creature can still try to hide behind something with Stealth” https://twitter.com/jeremyecrawford/status/553730387751337984?lang=es

I am confused, on the one hand it says that you can not hide from a creature with blidsight unless it is by magic means, and on the other hand it says that a creature can hide from another with a blindsight if it hides behind a cover (maybe in this case you can hide behind a cover because you are magically invisible?)

What would happen if I do not use magic means, and I hide behind a cover?

Magical means can be a fog cloud, darkness or similar spells?
Could I hide in these cases?

    thx in advance

    • Obama White says:

One is a state of being the other is taking an action / ability check to try and get to that state.

Yes you can “be hidden” from a creature with blindsight.

No you can’t “hide” from a creature when within it’s blindsight radius (without magic)
Unless you are already hidden it will become aware of you when you enter it’s blindsight. And you can’t hide from something that is perceiving you.

Invisible has no effect on blindsight, it can see without the use of eyes. Invisible is only sight not sound , smell ,or taste.(or something else)
The magic that was listed are thanks that effect sight. So they are in the same boat as being invisible.
However silence will work great if the creature has eco-location for it’s blindsight, and pass without trace will aid in staying hidden/ or using magic allow you to make a stelth check to try and hide.
Hope that helps. That would be DMs interpretation (I would allow).

    • Darrell Rodgers says:

Yes you can hide from a creature with blindsight. You just have to account for how the blindsight is working. For example, if the blindsight is echolocation, you must be not able to have sound bounce off of you somehow. For example, if you were in a glass box, the sound would bounce off the box but not you and thus you’re invisible to the creature. You could likewise just be behind a glass door or cast a silence spell. If the blindsight is smell based then you could “hide” in a pile of trash possibly, etc.

    • Paul says:

That is not how multi-classing works in 5e. You decide to or not to multi-class when you level up. Assuming you meet the prerequisites.

    • H says:

In 5th edition you can multi class at any level as long as you meet the perquisites in chapter 6 of the players handbook PHB. But you can’t multi class at level 1 because that is your FIRST class. You can multi class at level 2, and there is nothing preventing your first 10 levels being multi classed into entirely different classes.

    • Obama White says:

The closest thing to “multiclassing” at lvl 1 would be human, with the option of taking a feat instead of +1 to all stats. And taking “magic initiate” but even then it’s not a full scope of having 1 lvl devoted to another class.

  5. Rober_lpgc says:

I have not found anything in the PHB or DMG about the maximum distance range to hear sounds with perception skill. Is there any limit?

What range could be considered normal? Has anyone found a rule about it?

    thanks in advance

Maybe a houserule that occurs to me would be the following:

Low sounds (a creature moving silently, people whispering, etc..): up to 60ft …. and double distance with Disadvantage.

Normal sounds (bird chirping, animals moving in the undergrowth, people talking, etc..): up to 120 ft …. and double distance with Disadvantage.

Noisy sounds (a church bell, bustle in a city, etc …): up to 240 ft …. and double distance with Disadvantage.

Extraordinary noisy sounds (an earthquake, a big battle, etc..): over than 480ft.

Maybe you can apply an extra rule, if you have keen senses or any other capacity in which you gain Advantage to Perception checks based on hearing, the exposed distances would be doubled. (This rule could cover the most acute senses of the elves).

    • Obama White says:

Xanarth’s guide to everything page 77 gives some rulings for sound that will be loud enough to wake someone when sleeping.
And spells like thunder wave state that it as a loud blast that is heard up to 300ft away.

That is all that I have as of right now.
      Sorry it isn’t much help.

      • Rober_lpgc says:

ok, I supposed, I had not found any rule about it.

Under your experience what do you think of this houserule, to fill in the empty rule?

Can you think of another better one?

        Thx in advance

        • Obama White says:

in a game I am in if someone isn’t trying to be silent , we use passive stealth. To determine how naturally silent/sneaky players are.
As far as distance anything past 300ft is 0 % chance.
Thunder wave in it’s description (spells effect)”,and the spell emits a thunderous boom audible out to 300 feet.”

So there is a chance to hear that spell even if it’s DC 30 at 300′
So using that if your within 100′ it’s DC 10 to know the rough direction of where it was from.
So unless there is disadvantage on your passive than that is easy to hear.

That is as loud of a sound that a player can make. So for Homebrew that is your extreme end. And looking up the distance and volume/perception to wake a sleeping creature is the minimum end.
A whisper within 15′ of a natural sleeping creature that has passive perception of 20 is enough to wake it up.

Hope this can give a little more insight for having a balanced system.
