Is there a reason you don’t impose disadvantage on perception roles when the PCs are in darkness?

  1. Darkness doesn’t impose disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks, it makes creatures effectively blind, and therefore incapable of making Wisdom (Perception) checks based on sight. Remember, Perception is all 5 senses, not just sight.
Dim light imposes disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks relying on sight. When dealing with darkvision, creature’s still follow these rules. Only 60′ of darkness is treated as dim light, and only 60′ of dim light is treated as bright light. #NotAllDarkness
