New D&D Book to be Announced on January 9th! Possible title: Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit

Dice and miscellany for the world’s greatest roleplaying game.
Let Laeral Silverhand—Open Lord of Waterdeep, centuries-old archmage, and daughter of the goddess of magic—guide you on your path to adventure.
Includes:
Eleven dice (two d20s, one d12, two d10s, one d8, four d6s, one d4).
Twenty illustrated, double-sided cards detailing Laeral’s expert insights on key characters, locations, and lore from across the Forgotten Realms.
A durable, felt-lined box that functions as two dice trays.
Foldout double-sided map of the Sword Coast and the city of Waterdeep.

Theories on “Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit” So let’s look at what we know. A dice set is coming out on March 17th called Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit. Based on previous dice sets it’s a safe assumption that this is the title of the new March book. We have also had a TON of class-related UA, so here’s what we can figure out!

-Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit will be similar to Xanathar’s Guide and will have new subclasses and (hopefully) the class variant UA

-Laeral Silverhand is known as a prolific maker of magic items, I think we can assume this book will also feature new magic items, possibly common, probably stronger

-“Explorer’s Kit” seems to indicate an emphasis on the exploration pillar and a kit of equipment. What Xanathar’s did for tools I’m hoping this book will do for Equipment Packs (those handy-dandy things everyone starts with but rarely use)

-If we’re really lucky this book may expand armor and weapon options. While new weapons have been scattered about in other books (Ylkwa and boomerangs for example) we’ve never really gotten an expansion to these basic features. I would love a variety of shields to choose from (a +3 heavy shield, or a +1 shield that can be thrown for example), or better finesse options than just the rapier.

And really quick: I know, it’s Forgotten Realms again. Let’s face it, Laeral is an extremely recognizable name thanks to Dragon Heist and tons of novels and she’s significant enough to have her own “Guide” imo. Remember that Xanathar’s Guide had, like, 1% lore so while this really shouldn’t matter PLEASE refrain from complaining about more Realms books in the comments. That being said I would love to hear your theories in the comments below! from r/dndnext

  1. It’s not just Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit , it’s Forgotten Realms: Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit , the accessory kit that is being released includes cards with locations and characters from across the Forgotten Realms. Its clearly the Forgotten Realms answer to Eberron: Rising From The Last War. E: RftLW had a solid mix of player options (8 races, Dragonmark rules, Group Patron, the Artificer with 3 subclasses, magic items), setting lore for different locations, racial and national and religious lore, NPC and Monster stats, ect…

Also note that this book is actually heavier then E: RftLW by .15 pounds. That is at least 10 to 25 pages larger. But its still lighter the the MM.

So if I’m right then this new book will have player rules (most likely the UA material, perhaps some republished stuff like the Centaur, FR flavoured Group Patrons, maybe new backgrounds, ect…), lots of lore on different locations within FR, including its cosmology, FR Monsters and NPCs, maybe little mini adventurers and look at FR cultures and religions and so on.

      “It’s not just Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit, it’s Forgotten Realms: Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit”

An extremely tortured title, if true.

Even simply “Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit” doesn’t really roll off the tongue. But awkward names seem to be common for 5E books, for some reason.

Also, doubling up in confusing ways also seems to be a problem. Volo’s Guide To Monsters and Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes are very different books, despite being poorly distinguished from one another by name.

Now we’re going to have Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide and Forgotten Realms: Laeral Silverhand’s Explorer’s Kit, and presumably they’re also going to very different from one another? It’s getting a little absurd.
