Not much, as Ed Greenwood has a dozen books worth of material.

What Hasbro needs to do is embrace the current demand for new material from the players. Reissue Old favourites in 5e format, I could imagine a greater desire by players around the world. Esp since PF2e has just come out and looks good.

D&D absolutely could use a new setting, and I think Mr. Greenwood deserves the have the rights back.

The trouble is, the last time they tried a new setting, people generally didn’t care for it. Sticking with the Forgotten Realms has a ton of issues, some large, some small, but it has the benefit of already being built and already being popular.

That said, I don’t think WoTC would risk anything to put out a call for submissions. If they find something they like and find promising, they can start talks with the creator and everyone wins. And if they don’t find anything, no harm, no foul.
