I’m firmly aware of at least some lore and culture for the rest of the locations suggested, but I know nothing about Sossal besides what is brought up in the background. I really do wish we could get a few answers sooner rather than later.
I’ve wanted to make a Swedish / Finnish / Sami inspired character who comes from a light-haired tribe of reindeer herders, but nearly all the humans of northern Faerun who might reasonably lead such a lifestyle have more of a North Asian appearance, with darker hair and complexions.
The Sossrim seem like the closest match aesthetically, but the dearth of information on them and on Sossal proper makes me hesitate.
Yes, I could always just come up with my own lore to add to my table’s version of Faerun, but I don’t quite feel comfortable with the idea – I prefer to tie my characters into the official lore of the world where it exists, and only feel comfortable inventing my own stuff to fill in gaps that seem intentionally left blank.
Sossal is weird, because clearly NOT a blank slate – there’s lore written for it, it just hasn’t been released. If there wasn’t any lore, I’d feel comfortable making my own to “fill in the map”, so to speak. But since there is lore, I don’t like the idea of trying to overwrite it without even seeing it, especially since if and when it gets released, that could totally invalidate my entire character arc.
