@CaelenAlexander at what level did you allow your players to cast 1st and 2nd level spells as a bonus action? Or is it just certain spells? Around level 8. Earlier becomes a little unbalanced

No disrespect to the playstyle of @matthewmercer but giving away full action spells as bonus actions is bananas. Spellcasters already become waay more powerful than physical classes. One thing that keeps that in check is action economy.

I don’t allow that. Action spells always are an action. What I allowed (and will continue to allow as a feat) is being able to cast an Action spell and Bonus Action spell in a single round, so long as one is 2nd lvl or lower (instead of just a cantrip). https://t.co/JNtHpDOa6I

Mind you, at higher levels, many cantrips are more powerful than 1-2 lvl spells, so it’s more for utility and fun than anything. Especially larger groups with less rounds per combat. https://t.co/GqYJyUELTn

Just for the record, by RAW you are not allowed to cast any spell as bonus action unless it is specifically stated as such. If it is, you are allowed to cast a cantrip with your action in addition.
So you can never cast a fireball and an acid splash in one round. Indeed!
