    • Yes.
The spells says “a creature that enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there”, as a PC you are a creature, thus you are affected.

Would a brawny 6th lvl bear totum barb have the effects of carrying capacity stack from the one size category larger capacity from brawny and then have it doubled from his or her totem?

    • Yes.
They are 2 different affect’s so they could stack. (Brawny says you count as 1 size larger for determining your carrying capacity, and the bear totem says you double it).

      • Anguis says:

Add on ritual caster and you have Kronk…use the druid or bard list and treat it like the squirrel scout handbook!

Does the school of Evocation feature of addding int mod for dmg to evvocaation spells stack with the weapon die when using green flame blade or booming blade?

    • No, it only adds the modifier to the damage roll of the spell, not the damage roll of the weapon.

The PHB Errata also states ” The damage bonus applies to one damage roll of a spell, not multiple rolls.”.

so for booming blade or green-flame blade that would be weapon dmg + (booming blade dmg + 1 instance of your int mod to the dmg).

Can a wild magic sorcerer use Tides of Chaos even if he does not make an attack roll, saving throw or ability check to gain advantage on that turn?

    • no, tides of chaos allows you to get advantage on one attack roll, ability check or saving throw.

nowhere it states that it gives advantage on a turn or that it activates in a turn. You simply state that your using tides of chaos on this attack, ability check or saving throw roll (and assuming you have it available) and you now have advantage on that roll.

      • Forger says:

So you can’t use Tides of Chaos if you do not make or already have made a d20 roll? That’s the crux of my question

          • Forger says:

Use Tides of Chaos, cast some spell that doesn’t require a roll and cast Shield during the enemy’s turn to proc Wild Surge
            (playing a wild sorcerer tank)

But the answer below seems clear enough. Guess I’ll stick to Booming Blade/Green-Flame Blade and go from there.

        • The spells states “gain”, since this must be a verb in either present or future I’d imagine that it would mean to future roll, not on an already made roll (though I’ll admit I’m not 100% sure on this).

That said, as far as I’m aware you either roll with (dis)advantage or you don’t. Determining advantage afterwards doesn’t exist in any of the (other) rules/feat’s/abilities, as it’s always described as rolling again and choosing or rolling again and using the new roll.

So taking those 2 parts together I would assume that if it allowed you to determine after the roll that it would state so, and thus this has to be declared beforehand.

    Dear Sage,

Is the following a typo in the Sword Coast Adventurer Guide? (caps)
“Half-Elf variant […] If your DM allows it, your Half-Elf character can forego Skill Versatility and instead take the Elf trait Keen Senses OR a trait based based on your elf parentage.”

Should the OR be an AND? Because it seems very counter-intuitive to exchange 2 free-to-chose skills for only the Perception skill or a single racial trait.

    • Possibly yes, but it would heavily depend on the situation.

The spell states “The suggestion must be worded in such a manner as to make the course of action sound reasonable”, it must also not be obviously harmful.

So they would probably not attack a friend, they might attack an ally if you can convince him that his/her ally is now an enemy, as long as your target believes this will not result in him being obviously harmed.

Using the DMG new spell damage table (pg 283-284) would it be within the guidelines to have a “magic missile” type of cantrip. 1 dart of 1d4 that auto hits, and at higher lvls you get more darts?
splitting attacks is like E-blast (with damage of 1d10)
Hitting more than 1 target is 1d6 (on the tabe)
Also assuming 1/2dmg on save of 0 on a missed attack, so damage for so. 1d4 damage for this sounds fair.

    • Alright you have a lot going on in that text. You have auto hit, but a still a save for half damage.

I think MM is level 1 because of the autohit which I think requires a limited resource to be given up.

EB is a cantrip because it is the warlock’s primary attack (like a ranger’s bow). It is an outlier for a reason, it is core part of the class. Moreover, it is an attack toll for each dart.

I could see save vs (Stat) or 1/2 damage 1d4 (maybe a 1d6) per dart starting at 1 dart, adding additional darts at plaer level 5, 11 and 17 (like most scaling cantrips) as a cantrip. That means on a failed save vs dart, the person takes 1-2 damage; and on a hit take 1-4 damage.

Sorry I put more in there than what I was asking about.the question I’m asking about is : is this cantrip overpowered?
        components V,S
        cast time 1 action,
        range 120
dose 1d4 dmg to its target. (more darts at higher levels)
