“Where is it, Dread Durlag?”
1
The reavers burst into the cottage, moving fast. A little girl squealed and fled, even before the foremost of the raiders could backhand her or kick her out of the way. It was a small hovel; the reavers were in the lone bedchamber in a trice, swords to the throat#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 10, 2018

…of the big man in the bed.
“Where is it, Dread Durlag?” one snarled. “Yield it, or die!”
“Not so deadly without it, are ye?” another taunted.
“Aye,” a third joined in. “Give us the Flying Blade…AND die!”
Their laughter was loud and cruel.#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 10, 2018
3)
It ended in gurgling chaos as reaver after reaver clutched at a slit throat, reeled, and fell. They were down to but three ere they espied the source of their deaths: the little girl, wielding the Flying Blade as her eyes blazed in rage.
They gaped.#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 10, 2018
4)
“The Flying Blade in the hands of a LITTLE GIRL?”
The little girl smiled as coldly as any winter wolf.
“I am the Dread Durlag,” she told them. “At your service.”
But by then the last one was falling. There was no one left for her to serve.#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 10, 2018
“So this is the Great God Slitherlgulp. Or all that’s left of it”
1)
The adventurers stared up at the hulking stone shape. The weathering of the passing centuries had pitted and scarred it until its features were almost worn away—but even a lazy eye couldn’t miss the long, octopus-like tentacles with their many suckers, and…#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018

…the many long-fanged mouths. “So this is the Great God Slitherlgulp. Or all that’s left of it,” said the veteran warrior. “Wonder why he wants it?”
The thief shrugged. “If collectors lusted not, I’d have little high-coin work.”
The wizard winced.#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
3)
“Look at its SIZE,” he groaned. “I don’t think my spells will stretch to shifting THAT.”
The warrior gave him a look, and hefted his great foehammer. “Anything wrong with bringing it back in pieces?”
It was the thief’s turn to wince.#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
4)
“DON’T,” he said firmly. “He’ll pay us nothing for stone shards. Whole or nothing.”
The warrior sighed. “Well, I can’t move it with brawn; ’tis as big as a border keep!”
“He gave us instructions should its size defeat us, remember?” the cleric piped up.#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
5)
“A blood offering to Slitherlgulp?” the thief protested. “We’d be fools to—”
The priest drew his altar knife, sliced his own forearm, and held it out over the cupped hands of the statue.
“Evidently,” the wizard told the thief, “we ARE fools.”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
6)
“INDEED,” the statue boomed, a mere instant after the first drop of blood struck its stone. “YOU ARE—AND I AM FREE AT LAST!”
The adventurers leapt for their lives, all in different directions, but the tentacles were many and long.#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018

They smashed, entwined, and squeezed, brutally. Ere falling to sudden dust, leaving only the wizard, whose spell had destroyed the statue, and the thief, who’d ended up under the wizard, alive.
“Another failed mission,” the thief groaned. “We’re going to be poor.”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
8)
The wizard smiled, carefully cast another spell—and some of the dust drew together, heaped itself up, and became a miniature likeness of the statue. “Spit on that, will you?”
The thief obeyed—and the tiny tentacle shape hardened into aged stone.#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
9)
“Let’s get this back to our collector before he finds some old text that tells him the size of the Great God Slitherlgulp’s idol,” the wizard suggested.
The thief grinned. “You think like a thief.”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
10)
“That’s a compliment,” he added hastily.
“Taken as such,” the wizard assured him, casting a spell that raised the warrior’s massive foehammer to float above the thief.
Who eyed it doubtfully. “That going to float above me all the way home?”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
11)
“So long as I’m unharmed,” the mage said with a smile, popping the small idol in a carry-box. “Don’t mind me; I’m just thinking like a thief.”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 15, 2018
“You, foul human king, must now die but can still sit your throne as a ghost!”
1)
As I sat on my cold throne of state
In a room I’d done executions and more in
The knights who on the doors do wait
Were hurled headlong in a crash that burst the door in— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 6, 2018
2)
I set down my book with a sigh
As a dragon flew in and all my courtiers did roast
Ere growling, “You, foul human king, must now die
But can still sit your throne as a ghost!”— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 6, 2018
“That’s the haunted castle,” the bard said grimly. “Go in there, and the ghosts get you!”
“Thanks!” said the adventurer. “I collect ghosts. In here.” He held up a glowing amulet.
“Ah,” the bard replied sadly, and pointed at his head. “I collect them in here.”#epic fantasy— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) June 7, 2018
Does Speak with Animals/Beasts give a bonus to Animal Handling checks?
Does Speak with Animals/Beasts (spell, forest gnome skill, or UA ranger ability) give a bonus to Animal Handling checks? I'd allow the character to use Charisma checks in that instance, would make a lot of basic things automatic that would normally require checks because it eliminates the communication gap that Animal Handling tries to bridge
— Mike Mearls (@mikemearls) May 18, 2018
Makes sense, even though it doesn’t help my forest gnome ranger – charisma is his dump stat so he’s better off sticking with regular animal handling. yeah, in my games i tend to let it allow for commands with no check for that reason

Differences in DMing strategy between home and streamed games?
Wondering if @matthewmercer, @mattcolville, @satinephoenix or @ChrisPerkinsDnD have ever thought about doing a panel on the differences in DMing strategy between home and streamed games?
— Jeffrey S. Mueller (@TheMightyJerd) June 6, 2018
Interesting. I don’t think my DMing strategy changes based on whether the game is live or streamed, in part because I favor a theater-of-the-mind play style. #wotcstaff https://t.co/RRjfhxCLTp
— Christopher Perkins (@ChrisPerkinsDnD) June 6, 2018
I thought about it, but I’ve only streamed I handful of times and don’t really feel like I’m an expert on it yet
